Signatures of Low Energy Solar Axions

Solar axions can convert to X-rays inside magnetic fields as they stream out of the Sun. This is the working principle of axion helioscopes like CAST. This is also suggestive for the origin of otherwise unexpected (soft) solar X-rays, which come preferentially just from the magnetic active regions at the Sun surface. However, their basic features do not match those expected from the standard solar axion model, at least not at first sight. Possible reconciling explanations will be presented. Focusing on a recent work in progress there is room for critical[=constructive] discussions about questions like : are axions or soft axion-like exotica behind mysterious solar behaviour from its X-ray emission to its anomalous elemental abundance ?
