Gravitational lensing of the CMB

Gravitational lensing of the cosmic microwave background (CMB), similarly to Sunyaev-Zeldovich and the integrated Sachs-Wolfe effects, is another example of effect coming from interaction of the large scale structure of the universe with the CMB photons travelling from the last scattering surface to the observer. The lensing distorts paths of the photons changing statistical properties of the CMB maps, especially at small angular scales. It can be both a source of cosmological information on intervening gravitational potential as well contamination of primodial gravitational waves. Increasing resolution of forthcoming CMB experiments and first claims of detection of the effect make these studies especially interesting. I will present current stage of the studies and their perspective in context of upcoming PLANCK satellite data.
