Modeling the Galactic Magnetic field on the Plane

Observations of external galaxies show that the relationship between the magnetic field and the ionized gas is far from simple and varies from galaxy to galaxy. Our own Milky Way is more difficult to study since we must observe it from within and looking through the plane. In this talk, I will present a method for comparing magnetic field models with many parameters to a variety of observables. We now have coverage of significant portions of the Galactic plane in total and polarized intensity for synchrotron and dust emission as well as in rotation measures, and I will discuss how these complementary data sets are vital for disentangling the different components of the Galactic magnetic field.
